63. Hayes Hill, San Francisco

Completed: August 19, 2023 | Elevation: 265′ | Trail: n/a | Distance: n/a

Originally our plan was to go camping again since we already had all the gear out from last weekend’s trip to Mount Vaca and the Mendocino National Forest, however, the forecast for Napa was a hot, high 80s bordering on 90 degrees so we decided to stay in San Francisco.

Taking a bit of a summer break from hiking, we drove to Hayes Hill, aka Alamo Square. The park is centrally located and it best known for its famous neighbors, the Painted Ladies, a row of candy colored Victorian homes.

The park was filled with people, some lazing in the sun, others angling for the perfect photo. We made our way to the “top”—a section located closest to the stairway coming from Hayes Street – and looked for our photo op. Mission accomplished, it was time to head back home.
